Corey Pratt's Offroad 1400 Class 6.0L

Corey came to us from our other friend Kory Holmes (pictured below in the baby blue Scout named “Smoosh”) at Holmes Fabrication. Corey races offroad in the 1400 class, and his old and tired 4.8 had been holding him back. He wanted to upgrade to a 6.0L and ensure it was built properly to last for many seasons to come.

We used this engine to develop our offroad 6.0 truck package which includes Gen 4 rods, flat top pistons, race bearings, Melling HP oil pump, and our customer’s choice of cylinder heads. Corey had just had a set of stock heads gone through and rebuilt with Manley NextTek valve springs, so we installed those alongside a Schneider camshaft.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • 550hp/500ft-lbs of torque at 6600RPM

  • Gen 4 rods

  • Flat top pistons to increase compression

  • Race bearings and Melling HP oil pump

*Corey originally asked us to paint his engine block red, but red is cursed for engine building (superstition passed down from an old guy our head engine builder used to work with) so he requested purple instead. We affectionately called his engine the Purple People Eater from then on.

After the engine was completed and installed, we took Corey’s Jeep Cherokee to Kory’s backyard for some tuning! His Jeep isn’t street legal, so we did some fun backyard pulls and offroad shenanigans to dial in the tune. We offer tuning for Holley, HPTuners, FiTech, ACES, MegaSquirt, and more. Enjoy the below pictures and videos of the tune!

After the tuning was complete, Corey had his first 1400 class race the next weekend! He raced at the Glen Helen and took home the win and the Mojave Offroad Freedom Cup in the 1400 class! Dusted Lens Photography (@dusted_lens on Instagram) captured ridiculously badass shots of the Jeep crushing the short course. We were so excited to see Corey get first place in his first race with the new engine, and we look forward to seeing what else he wins in the future!
